Heard the Word! Velatura

Painting by Elmira Petrova

Have you wondered how artists paint a foggy or hazy landscape? They have simply applied a very thin layer of white over the subject. This is like a glaze but unlike a glaze that is transparent it is a layer of semi-opaque or opaque paint. To create a milky look to a landscape or seascape simply thin white paint and you will have a “Velatura” which is a Spanish word for fog.
